Product Description

• Esomeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor, is used to reduce stomach acid.

Uses

• A treatment for peptic ulcer disease that reduces the recurrence of bleeding after endoscopy for acute bleeding in the stomach or duodenum in adults.
• Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease.
• Healing erosive esophagitis as a short-term treatment of 4 to 8 weeks.
• Treatment of Helicobacter pylori as part of a multi-drug regimen.
• Prevention of stomach ulcers associated with continuous treatment with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
• Esomeprazole is associated with a reduced risk of developing glandular cancer.

Precautions and warnings

• Esomeprazole increases the incidence of osteoporosis with long-term treatment or high doses.
• Esomeprazole increases the risk of developing diarrhea associated with Clostridium difficile infection.
• Increased risk of developing gastroenteritis.
• Acute nephritis has been observed in patients undergoing long-term treatment with proton pump inhibitors.
• Proton pump inhibitors reduce the effect of clopidogrel.

Side effects

• It may cause headaches, dizziness, irritability, bloating, and drowsiness.
• It may cause diarrhea, constipation, and abdominal pain.
• It may cause coughing.
