Ketorolac tromethamine 0.45% ophthalmic solution

What is ketorolac tromethamine and what is it used for?

• Ketorolac tromethamine is an anti-inflammatory drug for adults and children 15 years of age and older:
• Eye solution is indicated for the treatment of pain and inflammation following cataract surgery.

Do not take ketorolac tromethamine:

• After 5 months of pregnancy
• Hypersensitivity to ketorolac tromethamine
• A history of asthma caused by the use of ketorolac tromethamine or substances with similar activity such as other NSAIDs, and aspirin.
• Gastrointestinal bleeding, cerebrovascular bleeding, or other advanced bleeding
• development of gastric or intestinal ulcers
• severe liver failure
• severe renal failure
• Severe uncontrolled heart failure.
• Do not take ketorolac tromethamine if any of the above applies to you.

Warnings and precautions:

• Delayed healing: Topical nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) may slow down or delay healing.
• Tell your doctor if you are taking topical corticosteroids.
• There is a possibility of cross-sensitivity to acetylsalicylic acid, phenylacetic acid derivatives and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
• There have been reports of bronchospasm or asthma exacerbation associated with the use of ketorolac tromethamine ophthalmic solution in patients with known sensitivity to aspirin/NSAIDs, or a prior medical history of asthma.
• It is advisable that the ophthalmic solution be used with caution in patients with known bleeding tendencies or who are receiving other medications, which may prolong bleeding time.
• If you have evidence of corneal epithelial breakdown, the use of topical NSAIDs should be stopped immediately and the cornea should be closely monitored for health.
• If used for more than one day before surgery or used for more than 14 days after surgery, it may increase the risk of occurrence and severity of adverse corneal events.
• It should not be taken while wearing contact lenses.

Possible side effects:

• high eye pressure
• Headache
• Blurred vision

Other medications and ketorolac tromethamine:

• Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all the medicines you are taking, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins and herbal supplements.
• Tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following medications:
• Topical corticosteroids are also known to slow down or delay healing.
• The concurrent use of topical NSAIDs and topical steroids may increase the likelihood of healing problems.
• There are several substances that enter into interactions, due to the antiplatelet properties of medicinal products: aspirin and NSAIDs, ticlopidine and clopidogrel, tiroban.
• The use of many antiplatelet agents increases the risk of bleeding.

How to take Ketorolac Tromethamine:

• Adults: Apply one drop to the affected eye twice daily, starting one day before cataract surgery and continuing on the day of surgery.
• During the first two weeks of the post-operative period.

How to take Ketorolac Tromethamine:

• If given in conjunction with other topical eye medications such as alpha agonists, beta blockers, carbonic anhydrase inhibitors, anti-ciliatic agents, and antifungals.
• The drops should be administered at least 5 minutes apart.

How to store ketorolac tromethamine:

• Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
• Store at 15-30°C (59°-86°F).
• Store the vials in the bag, protected from light.
• Close the folded bag.
