Product description:

  • Please note that the doctor may have prescribed the medicine for different uses and/or at a different dosage than that stated in the package leaflet.
  • Always follow the doctor's instructions as shown on the pharmacy label.
  • Ursodeoxycholic acid, the active ingredient in Ursofalk capsules, is a natural bile acid found in small amounts in human bile.

Ursofalk uses:

  • To dissolve small gallstones.
  • For liver disease (primary biliary cirrhosis), among other things, to stimulate bile flow.
  • For liver disease associated with a condition called cystic fibrosis (also called cystic fibrosis) in children aged 6 to 18 years.

Usage guidelines:

  • Always use Ursofalk exactly as your doctor has told you. Contact a doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

Dissolution of gallstones:

  • The usual dose is 10-12 mg per kilogram of body weight daily, divided into two doses.
  • It usually takes 6 to 24 months for gallstones to dissolve. If the gallstones haven't decreased in size after 12 months, treatment should be stopped.
  • For the treatment of gallstones, a test will be carried out 6 to 10 months after treatment to check if the treatment has been successful.

Primary biliary cirrhosis:

  • The usual dose is 12-16 mg per kilogram of body weight daily.
  • During the first three months after starting treatment, Ursofalk should be taken throughout the day. Once liver function tests improve, the dose can be reduced to once a day, preferably in the evening.
  • There are no restrictions on the duration of treatment with this drug in cases of primary biliary cirrhosis.
  • In patients with primary biliary cirrhosis, a worsening of symptoms, such as itching, may rarely occur at the start of treatment. If this happens, treatment can be continued with a lower dose of Ursofalk. Later, your doctor will increase the daily dose weekly to the recommended daily dose.
  • The capsules should be swallowed whole with plenty of liquid. They must be taken regularly for successful results.

Warnings and precautions:

Do not use Ursofalk:

  • If you are allergic to bile acids or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
  • If you have acute inflammation of the gallbladder or bile duct.
  • If you suffer from frequent bouts of biliary colic.
  • If you have a blockage in the bile ducts.
  • If the gallbladder cannot contract sufficiently.
  • If you have radioactive calcified gallstones.
  • If your child has narrowed bile ducts and poor bile flow, even after surgery.

Consult your doctor or pharmacist before using Ursofalk:

  • During the first three months of treatment, liver function will be checked to see if the treatment is working and to check for side effects in the liver.
  • Women taking Ursofalk to dissolve gallstones should only use non-hormonal contraception because oral hormonal contraceptives can stimulate the formation of gallstones.
  • You should inform your doctor if you develop diarrhea, as your Ursofalk dose may need to be adjusted.
