Amlodipine/Candesartan 5 mg/8 mg Tablets

Amlodipine (as amlodipine besylate) and candesartan (as candesartan cilexetil)

What is Amlodipine/Candesartan used for and what are its uses?

Amlodipine/candesartan is used to treat high blood pressure in patients whose blood pressure is already controlled with a combination of amlodipine and candesartan taken separately at the same doses as amlodipine/candesartan tablets.

Do not take amlodipine/candesartan.

• If you are allergic to amlodipine or any other calcium antagonists, candesartan cilexetil, or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

• If you suffer from severe low blood pressure

• If you have narrowing of the aortic heart valve (aortic stenosis) or cardiogenic shock (a condition in which your heart is unable to supply the body with enough blood)

• If you have heart failure after a heart attack

• If you are more than 3 months pregnant

• If you have severe liver disease or bile duct obstruction (a problem with bile draining from the gallbladder)

Warnings and precautions

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking amlodipine/candesartan if you have or have had any of the following conditions:

• Recent heart attack

• Heart attack

• Severe rise in blood pressure (hypertensive crisis)

• Low blood pressure (hypotension)

• You are elderly and your dose needs to be increased.

• Liver or kidney problems, or on dialysis

• If you have ever had a stroke

Your doctor may want to see you more often and do some tests if you have any of these conditions.

Possible side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Visit your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects after taking this medicine:

• Sudden wheezing, chest pain, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

• Swelling of the eyelids, face, or lips

• Swelling of the tongue and throat, causing great difficulty in breathing.

• Severe skin reactions including severe rash, hives, reddening of the skin all over the body, severe itching, blistering, peeling and swelling of the skin, inflammation of the mucous membranes (Stevens-Johnson syndrome) or other allergic reactions

• Heart attack, abnormal heartbeat

• Pancreatitis, which may cause severe abdominal and back pain accompanied by a feeling of extreme discomfort.

Other medications and amlodipine/candesartan

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medicines. Amlodipine/candesartan may affect or be affected by other medicines, such as:

• Ketoconazole, itraconazole (antifungal medications)

• Ritonavir, indinavir, nelfinavir (called protease inhibitors used to treat HIV)

• Rifampicin, erythromycin, clarithromycin (antibiotics)

• Hypericum perforatum (St. John's wort)

• Verapamil, diltiazem (heart medications)

• Dantrolene (infusion in cases of severe abnormalities in body temperature)

• Simvastatin (a cholesterol-lowering drug)

• Other medications to help lower blood pressure, including beta-blockers, diazoxide, and ACE inhibitors such as enalapril, captopril, lisinopril, or ramipril

• Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen, naproxen, diclofenac, celecoxib, or etoricoxib (medicines to relieve pain and inflammation)

How to take amlodipine/candesartan

Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

The usual dose of amlodipine/candesartan 5 mg/8 mg is one or two tablets daily.

How to store amlodipine/candesartan

Store below 30°C. Store in the original package to protect from light. Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.

Do not use this medicine after the expiry date printed on the carton/blister after EXP. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.

Do not dispose of medicines via wastewater or household waste.
