Peptazol 15 mg is considered an effective treatment for heartburn and acid reflux.
Peptazol is a drug that belongs to a class of drugs called “proton pump inhibitors”.
It works by blocking the channels that cause acidity in your stomach and is used for several reasons in adults:
Gastroesophageal reflux (also known as acid reflux or "heartburn").
NSAID-associated ulcer (an ulcer that forms in your intestines due to the overuse of NSAIDs).
Duodenal ulcer (an ulcer that forms at the beginning of the small intestine).
Benign stomach ulcer (a non-cancerous ulcer that forms in your stomach).
Usage guidelines:
The recommended dose and duration of treatment are determined individually based on age and indications.
The usual dose ranges from 15 to 30 mg once a day.
Eat before meals.
Swallow the capsules whole.
Do not chew or crush delayed-release tablets or capsules.
If you cannot swallow a whole capsule, open the capsule and swallow its contents with a small amount of food or juice.
Warnings and precautions:
Do not stop taking your medication without consulting your doctor.
Speak to your doctor or pharmacist if you experience allergic reactions such as shortness of breath, rash, swelling of the face or neck, low blood pressure and dizziness.
The use of this medication may be associated with Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea (a bacterial infection of the stomach that causes diarrhea). Be sure to tell your doctor if you experience diarrhea.
Prolonged and repeated daily use of this drug may lead to osteoporosis (weakening of bones that causes fractures) and put you at risk of fractures in the hip, spine, or wrist.
Long-term use of this medication may cause low blood magnesium levels. Your doctor may recommend regular laboratory monitoring of your magnesium levels.
