How allopurinol works
Allopurinol is a xanthine oxidase inhibitor.
It prevents the conversion of hypoxanthine to xanthine and then uric acid, thus reducing uric acid production without disrupting the formation of other purines necessary for cell growth.
Medical uses of No-Uric 100 mg tablets
Allopurinol is used to treat high levels of uric acid in the body, which can cause gouty arthritis and skin and kidney problems. Some people may not experience any symptoms.
Allopurinol is also used to prevent and treat kidney stones in patients with high uric acid levels.
How to use No-Uric 100 mg tablets
Always take allopurinol tablets exactly as your doctor has told you. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
The tablet should be swallowed with a drink of water.
Take the tablet(s) with or immediately after food.
The usual starting dose for adults is 100 mg to 300 mg daily taken as a single dose.
The usual maintenance dose is 200 mg to 600 mg daily and this dose may be divided and taken at separate times during the day.
For children, the dosage depends on the child's body weight and ranges between 10 mg and 20 mg per kilogram of body weight per day.
