How to use Nevanac eye drops

  • Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.
  • Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
  • Apply this medication to the operated eye(s) as directed by your doctor. Directions for use depend on the strength of the eye drops prescribed. Follow your doctor's instructions.
  • If you are using nepafenac 0.1% eye drops, apply them usually 3 times a day starting 1 day before surgery, and continue using them on the day of surgery and for 2 weeks after surgery, or as directed by your doctor.
  • If you are using nepafenac 0.3% eye drops, apply them usually once daily, starting one day before surgery. Continue using them on the day of surgery and for two weeks after surgery, or as directed by your doctor. Your doctor may also ask you to apply an additional drop half an hour to two hours before surgery.
  • To apply eye drops, wash your hands first and then shake the bottle well before each dose. To avoid contamination, do not touch the dropper tip or let it touch your eye or any other surface.
  • Doses may be changed under special circumstances, so always follow your doctor or pharmacist's instructions.
  • If you take more medicine than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital immediately.
  • If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose.
  • Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for a missed dose.

Side effects of Nevanac eye drops

  • Although the following side effects are not common to everyone, some patients may experience:
  • This medication may temporarily sting or burn your eyes for 1-2 minutes when applied. Eye redness and headache may also occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
  • Remember that this medication has been prescribed because your doctor has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.
  • Tell your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects, including: eye swelling/pain, eye discharge/excessive watering, vision changes.
  • A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.
  • This is not a complete list of possible side effects. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Using Nevanac eye drops during pregnancy and breastfeeding

  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
  • Your doctor will discuss the potential risks and benefits of using this medication during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Warnings and precautions while using Nevanac eye drops

  • Before using nepafenac, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to this drug; or to aspirin; or other NSAIDs (such as ibuprofen, celecoxib); or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients (such as preservatives like benzalkonium chloride), which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.
  • Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: asthma (including a history of worsening breathing after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs), bleeding problems, previous eye surgery, other eye problems (such as dry eye syndrome, corneal problems), diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, nasal polyps.
  • Your vision may be temporarily unstable after applying this medication. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do any activity that requires clear vision until you are sure you can perform such activities safely.
  • During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

How to store Nevanac eye drops

  • Store below 25°C.
  • Don't cool down
  • After opening, the drops are safe for use in the eyes for 28 days. After that, using the drops can cause serious eye damage as bacteria may have entered the eye.
  • Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
  • Must be stored in the original container to protect from moisture.
  • Do not use this medicine after the expiry date printed on the carton/blister/label. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
