Product description:

  • INVEGA® (paliperidone) extended-release tablets are indicated for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults and adolescents (12-17 years of age).
  • INVEGA® has been shown to be effective in schizophrenia in three 6-week trials in adults and one 6-week trial in adolescents (aged 12 to 17 years),
  • INVEGA® (paliperidone) extended-release tablets are indicated for the treatment of schizoaffective disorder as monotherapy and as an adjunct to mood stabilizers and/or antidepressant therapy in adults.
  • INVEGA® has been shown to be effective in schizoaffective disorder in two 6-week trials on adults.
  • Paliperidone is a drug that works in the brain to treat schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder.
  • It is also known as second-generation antipsychotics (SGAs) or atypical antipsychotics.
  • Paliperidone restores the balance of dopamine and serotonin to improve thinking, mood, and behavior.
  • Paliperidone extended-release tablets are indicated for the treatment of schizoaffective disorder as monotherapy and as an adjunct to mood stabilizers and/or antidepressant therapy in adults and for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults.

Usage guidelines:

  • Paliperidone tablets are usually taken once a day with or without food.
  • Patients usually start with a low dose of the drug and the dose is slowly increased over several weeks.
  • The dosage of the tablets usually ranges from 3 mg to 12 mg.
  • Only your healthcare provider can determine the correct dosage for you.
  • The tablets must be swallowed whole.
  • It should not be chewed, crushed, or broken.
  • Use a calendar, medicine box, alarm clock, or cell phone alert to help you remember to take your medication.
  • You can also ask a family member or friend to remind you or check in with you to make sure you are taking your medication.

Warnings and precautions:

  • INVEGA® and similar drugs can raise blood levels of a hormone called prolactin, and blood prolactin levels remain elevated with continued use.
  • This may result in some side effects, including amenorrhea (absence of menstruation), milk leakage from the breasts, breast growth in men, or erectile dysfunction.
  • People with narrowing or obstruction of the digestive tract (esophagus, stomach, small or large intestine) should speak to a healthcare professional before taking INVEGA®.
  • Some people taking Invega may feel faint or dizzy when standing or sitting up too quickly. This side effect can be reduced by standing or sitting up slowly and following your healthcare provider's dosing instructions.
  • Patients (especially the elderly) taking antipsychotics with certain health conditions or those receiving long-term treatment should be assessed by their healthcare provider for potential fall risks.
  • Blood problems such as a decrease in white blood cell count have been reported in patients taking INVEGA® and similar drugs.
  • In some cases, it was serious and life-threatening. Depending on your medical condition, your healthcare provider may choose to test your blood when you begin treatment with INVEGA®.
  • INVEGA® may affect your ability to make decisions, think clearly, or react quickly. Do not drive, operate heavy machinery, or engage in other hazardous activities until you know how INVEGA® affects you.
  • INVEGA® should be used with caution in people with a seizure disorder, who have had seizures in the past, or who have conditions that increase their risk of seizures.
  • INVEGA® may increase the difficulty of swallowing, which may cause food or liquids to reach your lungs.
