Miconazole nitrate 1200 mg vaginal suppositories.

What is miconazole nitrate used for?

  • This medication is used to treat vaginal yeast infections.
  • Miconazole reduces vaginal burning, itching, and discharge that may occur with this condition.
  • This drug is an azole antifungal.
  • It works by stopping the growth of the fungi that cause the infection.
  • Do not use miconazole nitrate
  • If you are allergic to the active ingredient or any other component of this medicine, or any other antifungal medicine.

Warnings and precautions:

If you suffer from any of the following health problems, consult your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine:

  • Diabetes.
  • Recurrent vaginal yeast infections (more than 3 in 6 months or 4 in 1 year).
  • Do not use tampons, douches, spermicides or other vaginal products while using this medication.
  • Unscented sanitary pads can be used during menstruation or to protect your clothes from medication leakage.
  • Tell your doctor if your condition does not improve after 3 days or lasts more than 7 days.
  • Tell your doctor if the infection returns within two months.
  • You may need a different or additional medication to treat your condition.

Possible side effects:

  • Headache or burning in the vagina/urethra/itching/pain or cramps in the lower abdomen may occur.
  • If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist immediately.
  • If your doctor has ordered you to use this medicine, remember that your doctor has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects.
  • Many people who use this medication do not experience serious side effects.
  • A very serious allergic reaction to this medicine is unlikely, but you should seek immediate medical attention if one occurs.

Symptoms of a severe allergic reaction may include:

  • Skin rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, difficulty breathing.

Other medications and miconazole nitrate:

Tell your doctor about all the medications you are taking, especially:

  • Blood thinners such as warfarin.
  • Medications for diabetes.
  • Heart medications are called calcium channel blockers.
  • Phenytoin.
  • Statins are used to lower cholesterol levels.

Instructions for use:

  • This product is for vaginal use only.
  • Wash your hands before and after use.
  • Avoid contact of this product with your eyes.
  • If it gets into your eyes, wash them immediately with plenty of water.
  • The dosage depends on your medical condition and response to treatment.
  • The medicine is usually used once daily at bedtime for 1 to 7 nights as directed by the doctor.
  • If using a vaginal suppository, you can use your finger to insert the suppository.
  • Unscrew the suppositories before use.
  • Follow the package instructions on how to fill the vaginal suppositories with the solution.
  • Lie on your back with your knees towards your chest.
  • Insert the suppository into the vagina as far as it can be comfortably placed.

How to store miconazole nitrate:

  • Store at room temperature (20 to 25 degrees Celsius).
  • Keep this medicine out of the reach of children.
  • Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the package.
  • The expiry date refers to the last day of the same month.
