Mebeverine 200 mg Modified-Release Capsules*


What is mebeverine and what are its uses?


  • Mebeverine helps relax the muscles of the digestive tract (gastrointestinal tract). It is used in conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and similar problems such as chronic IBS, spastic constipation, mucous colitis, and spastic colitis.
  • Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a very common condition that causes spasms and pain in the intestines or bowels.
  • The intestines are a long, muscular tube through which food passes down to be digested. If the intestines spasm and become severely compressed, you will feel pain. This medication works by relieving the spasms, pain, and other symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).


The main symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) include the following:

  • Stomach pain and cramps
  • Persistent diarrhea, or alternating constipation and diarrhea
  • Abdominal bloating and feeling of fullness
  • Small, hard, granular or ribbon-like stools


Do not take mebeverine

If you are allergic to mebeverine or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine.


Precautions and warnings

  • Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before taking mebeverine if:
  • You have developed new symptoms or your symptoms have worsened.
  • You have liver or kidney problems.
  • Possible side effects of mebeverine


Side effects:

Allergic reactions may occur, such as skin reactions, dermatitis or redness, swelling, hives, itching, or rash.


Other medications and mebeverine

Mebeverine is not known to interact with other medicines, but you should tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medicines.


How to take mebeverine

  • Try taking the tablet 20 minutes before a meal - some people find their symptoms are stronger after eating.
  • The tablet should be swallowed whole with water.
  • The tablet should not be chewed.


Adults (including the elderly):

The usual dosage is one tablet three times a day. Do not take more than three tablets per day.

The number of tablets you take may decrease if your symptoms improve.


Children and teenagers:

Mebeverine is not recommended for use in children and adolescents under the age of 18.


How to store mebeverine

  • Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
  • Do not use this medicine after the expiry date printed on the carton or label after EXP. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
  • Store this medicine in a dry place below 30 degrees Celsius and protect it from light.
  • Do not dispose of medications in wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medications you no longer use. These measures will help protect the environment.


* The dosage form and method of administration of modified-release mebeverine 200 mg capsules should be prescribed according to the therapeutic indication and severity of the disease for each individual patient.
