How does varenicline work?

How to use Champix tablets

  • Start taking varenicline as directed by your doctor, one to two weeks before your quit date.
  • Take one 0.5 mg tablet once daily for 3 days, then increase to one 0.5 mg tablet twice daily for 4 days.
  • The dose is increased slowly to reduce the chance of side effects (such as nausea and unusual dreams).
  • Doses may be changed under special circumstances, so always follow the instructions of your doctor or pharmacist.
  • If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital immediately.
  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose.
  • Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for a missed dose.
