Captopril 50 mg tablets

Product Description:

  • Captopril is used to treat high blood pressure, heart failure (weak heart), kidney problems caused by diabetes, and survival after a heart attack.

Do not take Captopril:

  • If you are allergic to the active ingredients, other ACE inhibitors, or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
  • If you have ever had a very severe reaction including swelling of the hands, face, lips, or tongue where the cause was unknown.
  • If you have diabetes or kidney dysfunction and are being treated with the blood pressure lowering medication aliskiren.
  • If you are more than 3 months pregnant.

Warnings and Precautions:

Tell your doctor about all your health conditions, including:

  • If you have liver problems.
  • If you have kidney problems or are on dialysis.
  • If you have heart problems, especially heart valves.
  • If you are taking medications that reduce your immune system.
  • If you have recently had excessive diarrhea or vomiting.
  • If you have diabetes.
  • If you have rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, or scleroderma.
  • If you are taking ACE inhibitors or aliskiren.

Possible side effects

  • Stop using this product and seek immediate medical attention if you develop a rash; itching; red, blistered, or peeling skin; tightness in the chest or throat; difficulty breathing, swallowing, or speaking; unusual hoarseness; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat.
  • The frequency with which these side effects occur is unknown.

Serious side effects:

  • Angioedema Symptoms may include swelling of the hands, face, lips, tongue, or throat, or difficulty breathing.

Common side effects:

(May affect up to 1 in 10 people)

  • Dizziness
  • rash.

Other medications and captopril:

Tell your doctor about all the medicines you take.

Tell your doctor especially if you are taking:

  • Other ACE inhibitors
  • Medications that lower blood pressure
  • Aliskiren
  • Diuretics (water pills)
  • potassium supplements
  • Lithium (for mental illness)
  • Drugs that suppress the immune system
  • Gout medications
  • Arrhythmia medications
  • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory pain relievers (NSAIDS)
  • Sacubitril

How to take Captopril:

  • Take this medicine as directed by your doctor.
  • Take this medication at the same time each day.
  • Take this medicine with or without food.
  • The usual dose is 6.25-25 mg, 2-3 times a day.
  • Your doctor may increase it to a maximum of 150 mg per day.

How to store Captopril:

  • Store at room temperature below 86°F (30°C).
  • Keep this medicine out of reach of children.
  • Do not use this medicine after the expiry date printed on the carton.
  • Do not dispose of any medicines via wastewater or household waste.
