What is the medication Anafranil 25 mg?

  • Anafranil 25 mg contains clomipramine and is used to treat depression and other mental health conditions. The pack contains 30 tablets.

How does the drug Anafranil work?

  • Clomipramine is an antidepressant that works by reducing the resorption of norepinephrine and serotonin in the central nervous system.
  • This enhances the effects of these neurotransmitters.

What are the medical uses of Anafranil?

This medication is used to treat the following mental health conditions:

  • depression
  • Obsessions and compulsions (irrational fears).
  • It is also used with other medications to treat a disorder that causes muscle weakness and symptoms such as jaw sagging, head drooping, and weakness in the knees.

How is Anafranil taken?

  • Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
  • Swallow the clomipramine capsules whole with a glass of water.
  • The medicine can be taken as a single dose at night, or divided into several smaller doses and taken.
  • The recommended dose is:
  • For depression: An initial dose of 10 mg, which can be increased to find a suitable dose, usually 30-150 mg daily or a maximum of 250 mg daily for severe cases.
  • Obsessive thoughts: An initial dose of 25 mg can be increased to 100-150 mg daily.
  • Tension resulting from muscle weakness: an initial dose of 10 mg which can be increased to a maximum of 75 mg per day.
  • Clomipramine is not recommended for use in children and adolescents.
  • Do not stop taking Anafranil suddenly, as this may cause side effects. The medication should always be stopped gradually.
  • Doses may be changed in special circumstances, so always follow the instructions of your doctor or pharmacist.
  • If you take more medicine than you should and experience stomach pain and nausea, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital immediately.
  • If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose.
  • Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for a missed dose.

What are the side effects of this medication?
