Product description:
Alphacort belongs to a group of medications called topical corticosteroids that can be used to treat various skin conditions, including:
- eczema
- Dermatitis, including intertrigo (irritation between skin folds), and insect bite reactions.
- Otitis externa (outer ear infection)
- Prurigo nodularis - a long-term skin condition characterized by intensely itchy lumps.
- Neurodermatitis - a long-term skin condition where the itchy skin becomes thickened due to scratching of diaper rash (in the absence of infection, or if an existing infection is treated with appropriate antibiotics).
Usage guidelines:
- Always use Alphacort as your doctor has told you.
- Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.
The recommended dose is:
- Adults - Gently apply a thin layer of cream or ointment to the affected area(s) two or three times a day.
- Children and infants - Gently apply a thin layer of cream or ointment to the affected areas(s) two or three times a day.
- The younger the child, the less need there is for it to be used.
- A child's course of treatment should not usually last more than 7 days - unless your doctor tells you to use it for a longer period.
Warnings and precautions:
- Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before you start using this medicine if you:
- You have psoriasis. The condition may worsen after stopping long-term treatment.
- You will apply the facort to your face, especially around the eyes.
- This medication should not be used on the face for extended periods as it may damage facial skin.
- Alfacort will be used to treat dermatitis or diaper rash in children and infants. Treatment in infants should be limited to a maximum of seven days.
- It's possible to accidentally develop a skin infection by using too much cream or ointment. If the condition seems to worsen despite using prescribed antibiotics, stop using Alfacort and contact your doctor.
