What is chlorphenamine and why is it used?

  • Chlorphenamine 10 mg/ml solution for injection (i.e., injection) contains the active ingredient.
  • Chlorphenamine maleate is an antihistamine.
  • Chlorphenamine is indicated in adults and children (from 1 month to 18 years of age) for the treatment of:
  • Severe allergic reactions.
  • These medications prevent the release of histamine in the body that occurs during an allergic reaction.
  • This product relieves some of the main symptoms of a severe allergic reaction.
  • Chlorphenamine injections are indicated for acute urticaria, control of allergic reactions to insect bites and stings, angioedema, drug-serum reactions, desensitization reactions, hay fever, vasomotor rhinitis, and severe pruritus of unspecified origin.

Usage guidelines:

  • This injection is usually given to you by your doctor or someone else trained to give it to you.
  • You will be given the injections under the skin, into the muscle, or directly into a vein.
  • Adults: The usual dose is 10 mg - 20 mg (1 or 2 ampoules) to a maximum of 40 mg (4 ampoules) in 24 hours.
  • Children: The dosage is calculated by the doctor according to the child's age or body weight:

Dosage according to age:

  • From one month to one year: 0.25 mg/kg.
  • From 1 to 5 years: 2.5 mg to 5 mg or 0.20 mg/kg.
  • From 6 to 12 years old, from 5 mg to 10 mg or 0.20 mg/kg.
  • From 12 to 18 years old, 10 mg to 20 mg or 0.20 mg/kg.
  • The doctor can dilute chlorphenamine with 0.9% sodium chloride to make it easier to measure and inject the small amounts required for children.
  • When given intravenously, the injection should be given slowly over one minute to avoid hypotension (low blood pressure) or stimulation of the central nervous system (dizziness).

Warnings and precautions:

Speak to your doctor or nurse before being given this medicine if you:

  • They are being treated for hyperthyroidism or prostate enlargement.
  • He suffers from epilepsy.
  • Increased pressure inside the eye or glaucoma, severe high blood pressure, heart
