Product Description

  • Isopol Capsule is used for the short-term treatment and maintenance of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). This medication works by reducing the amount of acid in the stomach. It helps relieve the symptoms of hyperacidity. Isopol is also used for the short-term treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), to reduce the incidence of stomach ulcers associated with the frequent use of NSAIDs, for the long-term treatment of excessive stomach acid production, to reduce the risk of recurrent bleeding in patients with stomach or intestinal ulcers undergoing endoscopy, and to treat patients with Helicobacter pylori infection and peptic ulcer disease.
  • Isopol Capsule can also be used with other medications to treat certain conditions, as recommended by a doctor. It is used with amoxicillin or clarithromycin to treat patients with Helicobacter pylori infection and peptic ulcers.

proton pump inhibitors

  • Isopol is a prescription medication belonging to a class of drugs called proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). PPIs are a group of medications that significantly reduce the production of stomach acid. Excessive acid production causes stomach and intestinal disorders. PPIs are used to treat these disorders.

Usage instructions

  • Isopol Capsules are to be taken with food. Patients are advised to mix the granules with food, and the granules should only be mixed with apple juice. This medication should be taken at least one hour before meals. Do not crush or chew the capsules.

Typical dosage

  • The typical dose of Isopol is 20 mg or 40 mg once daily for 4 to 8 weeks. The maximum adult dose of Isopol is 40 mg per day. This medication is usually used for 4 to 8 weeks for gastritis, 6 months for gastric ulcers associated with repeated use of NSAIDs, 4 weeks for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and 10 days for Helicobacter pylori infection and peptic ulcer disease. Isopol is usually taken at the same time every day. It takes about one hour for the medication to start working.

Special instructions

  • Patients are advised to mix the granules with food, and the granules should only be mixed with apple juice. If the apple juice mixture or the granules are not completely used, the remaining mixture should not be used. Do not swallow the granules if they have dissolved or broken down .

Warnings and precautions

Conflict with tests

  • Elevated serum chromogranin A levels may exacerbate the decreased gastric acidity caused by medications. High serum chromogranin A levels may also lead to false-positive results in the diagnosis of neuroendocrine tumors. Treatment with Isopol should be temporarily discontinued before assessing serum chromogranin levels, and repeat testing should be considered if initial serum chromogranin A levels are elevated. The same laboratory used for testing (monitoring) serum chromogranin A levels should be used.

Using Isopol with strontium and rifampin:

  • Drugs that induce CYP3A4 or CYP2C19 (such as St. John's wort or rifampin) can significantly reduce isopol levels. Avoid concurrent use of strontium isopol with rifampin or St. John's wort.

Low magnesium levels

  • Patients using proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), including isopol, for at least three months and for one year after starting treatment are at increased risk of low magnesium levels, characterized by adverse events such as tetanus, cardiac arrhythmias, and seizures. Appropriate monitoring of magnesium levels is required before initiating PPI therapy.

Increased risk of bone fractures

  • Patients using high doses, defined as multiple daily doses, and undergoing long-term proton pump inhibitor (PPI) therapy are at increased risk. Studies suggest that PPIs, including isobol, may be associated with an increased risk of osteoporotic fractures of the hip, spine, or wrist. These patients should use the lowest dose and shortest duration of PPI therapy appropriate for their specific condition.

Interaction with the drug clopidogrel

  • Clopidogrel metabolism can be worsened by concomitant use with drugs, such as isopol, that inhibit CYP2C19 activity. Concomitant use of clopidogrel with isopol 40 mg reduces the pharmacological effect of clopidogrel. Avoid concomitant use of strontium isomer with clopidogrel, a prodrug. The platelet aggregation inhibition caused by clopidogrel is entirely due to its active metabolite. When using strontium isomer, consider an alternative antiplatelet therapy.

Colitis

  • Hospitalized patients receiving proton pump inhibitor (PPI) therapy are at increased risk when using this medication. Studies indicate that PPI treatment, such as strontium isomer, is associated with an increased risk of diarrhea related to Clostridium difficile infection. A proper diagnosis should be considered in patients with an exacerbation of diarrhea associated with colitis (Clostridium difficile infection).

Vitamin B12 deficiency

  • Regular treatment with any acid-suppressing medication over a prolonged period (longer than three years) may lead to vitamin B12 deficiency due to the lack of hydrochloric acid in gastric juice (chlorhydria). A diagnostic approach should be pursued if any clinical symptoms consistent with vitamin B12 deficiency are observed.

swelling between the kidney tubules

  • Patients using proton pump inhibitors, including Isopol, are at increased risk. Swelling between the renal tubules may occur during treatment with PPIs and is generally associated with a severe allergic reaction of unknown cause. Discontinue Isopol if acute interstitial nephritis develops.

gastritis

  • Patients undergoing long-term treatment with omeprazole are at increased risk. These patients may experience an increased risk of developing gastritis (atrophic gastritis).

Stomach cancer (concurrent gastric tumor)

  • The response to treatment with isopol strontium does not prevent the development of stomach cancer.

Combined use of strontium isomer with methotrexate

  • The combined use of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) with methotrexate (primarily at high doses) may lead to elevated blood levels of methotrexate or its metabolite, potentially resulting in adverse methotrexate effects. In patients taking high doses of methotrexate, short-term withdrawal of PPIs, including isobol, should be considered.

Non-scareful skin lesions

  • The use of proton pump inhibitors, including Isopol, may increase the risk of skin lesions in sun-exposed areas. Patients should seek immediate medical attention and discontinue use of Isopol after consulting with a healthcare professional.

Gastroenteritis

  • Treatment with proton pump inhibitors, including Isopol, may increase the risk of gastrointestinal infections such as those caused by Campylobacter and Salmonella bacteria.

the components

  • esomeprazole
