Irbesartan/Hydrochlorothiazide 150/12.5 mg


What is Irbesartan/Hydrochlorothiazide and what is it used for?

  • It is a combination of irbesartan, an angiotensin II receptor antagonist, and hydrochlorothiazide, a thiazide diuretic, prescribed for high blood pressure:
  • In patients who are not adequately controlled by monotherapy.
  • As a first-line treatment for patients who are likely to require multiple medications to achieve their blood pressure goal.

Do not take irbesartan/hydrochlorothiazide :

  • Allergy to irbesartan or hydrochlorothiazide
  • Hypersensitivity to sulfonamide-derived drugs (such as sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim, sulfasalazine)
  • Anuria (not enough urine).
  • kidney failure
  • Liver failure

Warnings and Precautions:

  • Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking irbesartan/hydrochlorothiazide:
  • To monitor kidney function
  • To monitor potassium levels
  • If you have vision problems such as nearsightedness or glaucoma
  • If you have lupus
  • If you are at risk of dehydration

Possible side effects:

  • fatigue
  • dizziness
  • muscle pain

Other medicines and irbesartan/hydrochlorothiazide:

  • Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all the medicines you take, including prescription and nonprescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
  • Increased risk of lithium toxicity when taken together
  • Increased risk of kidney damage and decreased effects when taken with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and COX-2 inhibitors (such as ibuprofen, ketoprofen, celecoxib)
  • It is not recommended to use it with potassium supplements to avoid high blood potassium levels.

With hydrochlorothiazide only:

  • Avoid cholestyramine and colestipol for maximum absorption.
  • Adjusting the dose of antidiabetic medications
  • Monitor during use of alcohol, barbiturates, and narcotics due to possible hypotension.

How to take Irbesartan/Hydrochlorothiazide:

  • Adults over 18 years of age with CrCl >30ml/min The usual dose is one tablet daily.
  • Irbesartan/hydrochlorothiazide tablet can be taken with or without food.
  • It can be taken at any time of the day.
  • It can be given with other antihypertensive agents.
  • Do not break the tablet in half.
  • Correct if the amount of depletion is known before starting the medication.

How to store Irbesartan/Hydrochlorothiazide:

  • Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
  • Store at room temperature [77°F (25°C)].
  • Do not store above 30 degrees.
