Atenolol 100 mg tablets
Why use atenolol tablets?
• Treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension)
• Treatment of irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia)
• Helps prevent chest pain characterized by a painful feeling of tightness in the chest (angina pectoris)
• Protecting the heart in early treatment after a heart attack (myocardial infarction)
Do not take atenolol tablets
• If you are allergic (severely allergic) to atenolol or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
• If you suffer from any of the following heart problems:
Uncontrolled heart failure
Second or third degree heart block
Very slow or irregular heartbeat, severely low blood pressure, or severely impaired circulation.
If you have a tumor called pheochromocytoma that has not been treated
If you have higher than normal acid levels in your blood
Precautions and warnings
Speak to your doctor before taking atenolol tablets if:
• If you suffer from asthma, wheezing or any other similar breathing problems, or have allergic reactions, such as insect stings.
• You have a type of chest pain (angina) called Prinzmetal's angina.
• You have poor blood circulation or heart failure.
• You have a first-degree heart block.
• You have diabetes.
Possible side effects
Stop taking atenolol tablets if you notice any of the following serious side effects:
• Allergic reactions
• Abnormal heartbeat, dizziness, fatigue or fainting
• Shortness of breath or swollen ankles
Other medications and atenolol tablets
You should consult your doctor if you plan to combine atenolol tablets with the medications listed below:
Clonidine
Verapamil, diltiazem, and nifedipine
Disopyramide, quinidine, or amiodarone
• Digoxin
• Adrenaline, also known as epinephrine
• Ibuprofen or Indomethacin
• Insulin or oral medications you take for diabetes.
• Medications for treating nasal or sinus congestion or other cold remedies.
How to take atenolol tablets
Adults
• High blood pressure (hypertension)
The usual adult dose is 100 mg once a day.
• Certain types of chest pain (angina)
The usual adult dose is 50-100 mg once a day.
• Some heart rhythm disorders (arrhythmias)
The usual adult dose is 50-100 mg once a day.
How to store atenolol tablets
• Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
• Do not store above 25°C. Store in a dry place.
• Do not use your tablets after the expiry date stated on the label or carton.
• Do not dispose of medicines in sewage or household waste.
