Omeprazole 20 mg gastro-resistant hard capsules

What are the uses of omeprazole?

Omeprazole belongs to a group of medications called proton pump inhibitors. They work by reducing the amount of acid your stomach produces.

Omeprazole is used to treat the following conditions:

In adults:

• Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a condition in which stomach acid backs up into your esophagus (the tube that connects your throat to your stomach), causing pain, inflammation, and heartburn.

• Ulcers in the upper intestine or stomach.

• Ulcers infected with bacteria called Helicobacter pylori.

• Ulcers caused by medications called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Omeprazole can also be used to prevent ulcers if you are taking NSAIDs.

• Increased stomach acidity due to growth of the pancreas (Zollinger-Ellison syndrome).

In children:

Children over 1 year and weighing 10 kg

• Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) In children, symptoms of the condition can include the return of stomach contents to the mouth, vomiting, and poor weight gain.

• Ulcers infected with bacteria called Helicobacter pylori.

Do not take omeprazole:

• If you are allergic to medicines containing other proton pump inhibitors.

Warnings and Precautions:

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking omeprazole. Omeprazole may mask the symptoms of other conditions. Therefore, if you experience any of the following before or while taking omeprazole, talk to your doctor immediately:

• You are scheduled to have a specific blood test (chromogranin A).

Taking proton pump inhibitors such as omeprazole, especially for more than one year, may slightly increase your risk of a fracture of the hip, wrist, or spine. Tell your doctor if you have osteoporosis or if you are taking corticosteroids (which can increase the risk of osteoporosis).
