Meparin sodium

Why is meparin sodium used?


Meparin sodium is used in:

• Venous thromboembolism (VTE)

• VTE prevention after surgery, including during pregnancy, with a history of deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism

• Prevention of mural thrombosis

• Acute peripheral arterial occlusion, unstable angina


Warnings and precautions:

• Seek medical help if you experience an allergic reaction.

• Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any medicines.

• Be sure to talk about the allergy and any signs you have, including rash, hives, itching, shortness of breath, wheezing, coughing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, or any other signs.

• Stop treatment if platelets decrease.

• Medical assistance is required in case of hypersensitivity and in the elderly.


Possible side effects:


• Bleeding due to overdose. Transient and reversible alopecia.

• Osteoporosis. Hypersensitivity reactions include urticaria, conjunctivitis, rhinitis, asthma, angioedema, anaphylactic shock, and priapism.

• Bleeding, rash, bone pain, thrombocytopenia, hair loss, hypersensitivity, rigors, slight hematuria.


Other medicines with beta-carotene sodium:


• Sometimes, medications are not safe to take with certain medications and foods. Taking them together can cause bad side effects. Be sure to talk to your doctor about all the medications you take.


How to use meparin sodium:

• If you miss a dose

• Take a missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dose. Do not take two doses at the same time or extra doses. Do not change the dose or stop this medicine.

How to store meparin sodium:

• Store in a cool, dry place out of reach of children.

• Medicines should not be used after the expiry date.
