Product Description :

  • Micardis belongs to a group of medicines called angiotensin II inhibitors.
  • Angiotensin II is a substance produced by the body that causes blood vessels to constrict, thus increasing blood pressure.
  • Micardis blocks the effect of angiotensin II so that blood vessels dilate and blood pressure decreases.
  • Micardis is used to treat high blood pressure in adults, also known as essential hypertension.
  • The word "primary" means that high blood pressure is not caused by other conditions.
  • If high blood pressure is left untreated, it can damage blood vessels in many organs, sometimes leading to heart attack, heart failure, kidney failure, stroke, or blindness.
  • High blood pressure usually does not cause any symptoms until damage occurs.
  • Therefore, it is important to measure your blood pressure regularly to ensure it is within the normal range.
  • Micardis is also used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease (such as heart attack or stroke) in adults who are at risk due to reduced or blocked blood flow to the heart or legs, having had a stroke, or having high-risk diabetes.
  • Your doctor can tell you if you are at risk for such events.

Directions for use:

  • Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you.
  • Contact a doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
  • The recommended dosage is one tablet daily.
  • Try to take the tablet at the same time each day.
  • You can take Micardis with or without food.
  • The tablets are swallowed with water or another non-alcoholic drink.
  • It is important to take Micardis every day, until your doctor decides otherwise.
  • If you think the effect of Micardis is too strong or too weak, you should talk to your doctor or pharmacist about this.
  • The usual dose of Micardis for treating high blood pressure in most patients is one 40 mg tablet once a day to control blood pressure for 24 hours.
  • However, your doctor may recommend a lower dose of 20 mg or a higher dose of 80 mg.
  • Micardis can also be used with diuretics (water pills) such as hydrochlorothiazide, which have been shown to have a stronger blood pressure lowering effect than Micardis.
  • To reduce cardiovascular disease, the usual dose of Micardis is one 80 mg tablet once a day.
  • Blood pressure should be measured frequently at the beginning of prophylactic treatment with Micardis 80 mg.
  • If the liver is not working properly, the dose should not usually exceed 40 mg once a day.

If you take too much Micardis:

  • Contact your doctor, pharmacist or hospital immediately if you take more tablets than you should by mistake.

If you forget to take Micardis:

  • If you forget to take a dose, don't worry. Take it as soon as you remember on the same day.
  • If you forget to take a tablet one day, continue as usual the next day.
  • You should not take a double dose to make up for missed doses.
  • Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions about the use of this medicine.
